New Car Guide Hyundai

2012 Hyundai Accent

The Accent is Hyundai's entry level model and is available as either a sedan or five-door wagon. The front-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a 138-bhp 4-cylinder engine offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed transmissions, direct injection and low rolling resistance tires help the Accent achieve an admirable EPA rating of 30 / 40 (City / Hwy). When configured with an optional package, the Accent includes alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and keyless entry for around $17,000 which makes the Accent one of the best values on the market. Ironically, Hyundai's comprehensive lineup of sedans also includes the larger Elantra which offers similar equipment and fuel economy for about $1000 more.

2012 Hyundai Accent 5d

The Accent is Hyundai's entry level model and is available as either a sedan or five-door wagon. The front-wheel-drive Accent is powered by a 138-bhp 4-cylinder engine offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed transmissions, direct injection and low rolling resistance tires help the Accent achieve an admirable EPA rating of 30 / 40 (City / Hwy). Accent five-door models include more standard equipment than the sedan. The SE model includes power equipment, alloy wheels, fog lights and an audio system for about $16,500. This compares favorably to competitive vehicles ranging from the Honda Fit to the Ford Fiesta and Chevy Sonic.

2012 Hyundai Azera

Hyundai may have one of the most comprehensive lineups of sedans on the market. The Azera complements the mid-sized Sonata with a larger vehicle in the same way that Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet market vehicles like the Avalon, Taurus and Impala. Redesigned for 2012, the Azera is a large front-wheel-drive sedan with standard V6 power and a high-level of standard equipment. All Azeras include power-adjustable, heated leather seats a 550 watt audio system and a touchscreen navigation system. An optional technology package adds larger tires/wheels, a panoramic sunroof, HID headlamps and a 12-speaker Logic7 audio system.

2013 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra has rapidly evolved in to one of the best offerings in the compact segment. The latest Elantra is roomy, stylish and fuel-efficient. With a wider track and longer wheelbase, the Elantra compares favorably with the top-selling Honda Civic in size. Models range from a base model priced from about $17,000 to a well-equipped Limited model, which can top $23,000 fully optioned. A 1.8l four-cylinder engine is standard on all models. Most models equip a six-speed automatic, although a six-speed manual is available on the base model. Elantra's four cylinder is more powerful than other engines in the segment, yet turns in an impressive estimated fuel economy rating of 29/40 (city/hwy). If you are shopping in this segment, the Elantra bears consideration.

2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring

The Elantra line also includes a 5-door wagon. Although the exterior styling bears little resemblance to the Elantra sedan sold in the US, the interior should look familiar to Hyundai owners. Like the sedan, the Elantra Touring is equipped with 2.0L four-cylinder engine. The Elantra Touring cannot match the sedan's six-speed transmissions or high fuel economy ratings. Although the Elantra touring offers a healthy list of standard equipment, its competitiveness is somewhat limited by its antiquated four-speed automatic transmission. The 2012 model year is the last for this body style. A new five-door model that more closely matches the capabilities of the sedan is due for 2013.

2012 Hyundai Equus

Hyundai has a sedan to compete in just about every category, and their aspirations don't stop with the Genesis sedan. The high-end Equus sedan takes the idea of the Genesis one step further filling a premium rear wheel drive chassis with the high-end amenities found in flagship German luxury sedans. Compared to the Genesis, the Equus is about 6 inches longer but only adds about an inch of legroom. The Equus is offered in two models: Signature and Ultimate. Both models equip the 5.0l V8 and eight-speed automatic found in the Genesis R-Spec. The Signature model is for five-passengers, whereas the Equus Ultimate model has a specialized rear interior for only two passengers. Highlights of the Equus include power adjustable rear seats, a rear console refrigerator (Equus Ultimate) and an extraordinary Lexicon 7.1 audio system.

2012 Hyundai Genesis

Hyundai has a sedan to compete in just about every category. The Genesis is a large rear-wheel-drive sedan with proportions similar to the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Ford Taurus. With styling somewhat reminiscent of European luxury sedans, the Genesis also begs comparison to a couple of German luxury sedans although it's unlikely buyers of those cars would cross-shop the Hyundai. The interior is filled with luxury features and appointments like a leather wrapped dash, heated/cooled seats, and an extraordinary Lexicon 7.1 audio system. Genesis models are tied to their powertrains. The Genesis 3.8 equips a 333-bhp V6 engine and is priced from $35,000. The Genesis 4.6 is powered by a 4.6l V8 engine rated at 378-bhp and includes every available option as standard equipment for around $45,000. The performance model, the 5.0 R-Spec ups the power output to 429-bhp with a 5.0l V8 engine under the hood. All Genesis models include an eight-speed automatic transmission.

2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe

Don't let the Genesis nameplate confuse you, the Genesis coupe is a very different car from Hyundai's outstanding rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan. The Genesis coupe is a rear-wheel drive coupe that has more in common with performance coupes like the Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z and Chevrolet Camaro than it does any other mid-sized coupe in the price range. Genesis Coupe 2.0T models have a 274-bhp turbocharged four cylinder under the hood, whereas Genesis Coupe 3.8 models equip a 348-bhp V6. A variety of trim levels includes the enthusiast-oriented track models and the R-Spec package aimed at tuners. The Genesis coupe equipped with a six-speed manual is one of the best performance values on the market.

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe is a competent and efficient SUV from Hyundai. Loosely based on the Sonata, the Santa Fe has car-like driving manners with the ride height and capabilities of a mid-sized SUV. The interior is tastefully styled with ample accommodations for 5 passengers (seven passenger seating is no longer offered) and a generous amount of cargo. The Santa Fe is offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive with a choice of either a four-cylinder or a V6 engine. Three available trim levels range from the well-equipped base GLS model to the Limited model with leather-trimmed interior.

2012 Hyundai Sonata

The Hyundai Sonata has become an increasingly popular mid-sized sedan. Quality awards and long warranties have added to the traditionally strong price value that Hyundai offered. Like the Accord and Camry, Hyundai manufacturers the Sonata in America. This roomy FWD sedan is powered by four-cylinder engine mated to a six speed automatic. While other vehicles in the segment offer six-cylinder engines, the Sonata's four cylinder is more powerful than those found in other models while posting an impressive fuel economy rating of 23/35 (city/hwy). The Sonata is offered in three grades: GLS, SE and Limited each with a healthy list of standard equipment. If performance is the goal, the Sonata is available with an optional 2.0l turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 274-bhp. Introduced in 2011, the Sonata hybrid model pairs a 2.4l four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to achieve a fuel economy ratings of 35 / 40 ( city / highway ).

2012 Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson is a compact SUV from Hyundai that competes with hot sellers like the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4. Compared to these vehicles, the Tucson has about the same passenger volume and wheelbase, but gives up a little bit of cargo room due to its shorter overall length. The smaller and lighter Tucson boasts an impressive fuel economy rating of 23 city/32 hwy for the FWD model.

2012 Hyundai Veloster

The Hyundai Veloster is a unique new compact coupe/hatchback that serves as a sportier alternative to the Elantra sedan. The distinctive styling of the Veloster features a high, nearly horizontal hatchback with a vertical rear window similar to the Honda CR-Z. Hyundai has taken a novel approach to the ingress/egress problems associated with coupes. The driver's side has a full-length single door; however, the passenger side actually has two forward hinged doors. In theory, this is a more workable solution than the half-sized access doors that have appeared on cars and trucks in the past. The Veloster is almost identical in size to its corporate relative the Kia Forte Koup. Inside are two rows of seats for five passengers. A 1.6l four cylinder engine rated at 138-bhp is standard, but the Veloster should feel quick due to its low curb weight. Hyundai offers only one trim level, but owners can upgrade their Veloster with one of two option packages. The Preferred package adds upgraded wheels/tires, a premium audio system and a panoramic sunroof. The Technology package adds a Navigation system and push button start.

2012 Hyundai Veracruz

When Hyundai introduced the Veracruz in 2007, they positioned it as a value-priced alternative to the Lexus RX350 and Nissan Murano. In truth, the Veracruz was one of several 7 passenger crossover SUVs arriving for the 2007 model year. The Veracruz features a standard 3.8L V-6 mated to a 6-speed automatic and is available with FWD or an on-demand AWD driveline. An adult-friendly 3rd row seat folds down to create a flat load floor. With its comfortable ride, roomy interior and exemplary refinement, the Veracruz should appeal to customers looking for good value in a three-row SUV.
