2012 Land Rover LR2
The entry-level Land Rover competes at the premium end of the compact SUV segment. While rivals such as the BMW X3, Acura RDX, and Infiniti EX 35 emphasize on-road performance, the LR2 is geared towards light off-road duty. Most LR2 owners will not take their vehicles off paved roads, but will appreciate its full-time 4 x 4 driveline. Its unique Terrain Response System allows the driver to tune the 4WD system depending on the surface (grass, sand, etc.). Other safety features include Roll Stability Control and Hill Descent Control. Land Rover equips all LR2s with a 3.2L inline-6 mated to a 6-speed automatic. A 2.2L turbodiesel is available in non-US markets. Standard amenities include a 320-watt Alpine 9-speaker audio system, push-button start, and park distance control. 19-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights, DVD navigation, heated seats and windshield are optional.
2012 Land Rover LR4
Once called the Discovery, the LR4 is the latest version of Land Rover's mid-range offering. With optional seating for up to 7 passengers, the LR4 is the most mainstream vehicle offered by Land Rover. Due in part to its off-roading pedigree, the LR4 is shorter in length and narrower than other luxury SUVs, but nearly the same size as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the LR4 is tall and boxy and has a large interior volume. The optional third row seats fold flat, but also offer acceptable leg room due to the high roof and stadium type seating. A 5.0l V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission is the only powertrain offered.
2012 Land Rover Range Rover
The Land Rover Range Rover represents the pinnacle of luxury SUVs. A combination of heritage, luxury, on and off road performance put the Range Rover in a class by itself. This version of the Range Rover was developed while Land Rover was owned by BMW. Continuous updates, and a recent focus on performance with Jaguar developed motors ensure that the Range Rover stays on top of the heap.
2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Recognizing that few people use the Range Rover for off-roading, Land Rover offers the Range Rover Sport. The Sport dispenses with any pretension of off-road capability with a lowered chassis and performance tires. A sleeker profile with a subtle rear sloping roofline signifies that this Range Rover is intended for the road and not the trails. The new supercharged V-8 with dual exhausts ensures performance to back up the aggressive looks. The Range Rover sport competes with other performance oriented models like the Cayenne Turbo and Infiniti FX.
2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
The Range Rover Evoque is a small SUV aimed at the rapidly expanding market for small luxury SUVs. Offered in 3-door and 5-door models the Evoque is stylish departure from past entry-level models from Land Rover. In terms of size, the Evoque is smaller than other models in the segment like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Although a range of powertrains are offered in other markets, a 2.0l turbo is the standard engine in the United States.
